Excerpt:

Day groaned at the reality cooking show that was on but left it on the station anyway. He was just dozing back off when God came through the door carrying a tray. He wore a sexy smile on his face and no shirt…just muscles and tattoos on full display. Day couldn’t believe his hole was actually clenching.
Glutton for punishment.
Day could see the newspaper hanging off one side and a tall glass of grapefruit juice.
“I thought you might be a little, umm…sore. So I made you breakfast,” God said proudly.
When God lowered the tray to the bed Day immediately had to halt his first reaction—which was to burst out with laughter. Accompanying the newspaper and glass of juice, was a small mug of coffee that was too dark for Day’s liking, two pieces of burned toast with too much butter on them that hadn’t melted so the toast must be cold and a big bowl of Cap’n Crunch cereal with a spoon large enough to stir spaghetti sauce.
God handed Day the coffee first. “Here. I know this is what you want first.” God chuckled.
Day winked at him and took the mug. Day took a decent sip and cringed on the inside at the bitter, cold coffee. When Day looked closer into the mug, he could see quite a few coffee grounds floating around.
He looked up, gave his lover a genuine smile, and said, “Thank you, baby. It’s perfect.”
God looked so pleased with himself that Day vowed he was going to eat and drink every single thing on the tray. He picked up the toast, took a bite and quickly chased it with some grapefruit juice. God climbed in the bed from the other side and spooned him from the back, kissing him across his neck and shoulders.
“Are you feeling okay? Did I hurt you?” God asked in a low voice.
Day swallowed the mouth full of half-soggy cereal, almost gagging at the texture before answering God in a relaxed tone.
“No. You didn’t hurt me at all. I’m a little tender, but it will go away soon.”
“You’re lying.” God kissed his cheek. “I’m going to run you a bath in that swimming pool you’ve got in your bathroom.”
“Only if you join me.”
God kissed him again and got off the bed to go into the bathroom.
Day ate his food faster than humanly possible and scarfed down the horrific coffee in an effort not to taste it too much. He said a silent prayer that he didn’t get indigestion and placed the tray down on the floor.
He got out of bed and winced with each step he took into the spacious bathroom. God had the lights off and a couple candles lit on the outer rim of the Jacuzzi tub. He was already waiting inside for Day. Day licked his lips at the beads of water running down God’s chest.
God lifted one corner of his mouth at him and that was invitation enough.
Day was already naked so he climbed inside the tub and settled between God’s firm thighs.

The Cottage on Juniper Ridge by Sheila Roberts

I just got done reading Sheila Robert’s latest novel, The Cottage on Juniper Ridge. Yet another story set in Icicle Falls, this time we meet Jen Heath and Stacey Thomas. Jen Heath reads a Muriel Sterling book on simplifying her life and that includes selling her Seattle condo and moving to Icicle Falls. Stacey is a long-time resident who turns simplifying her life into a business of matching people with the right gentle used and antique things.

Once again, Sheila comes through with a great story about women and their incredible group of friends banding together to work through life’s problems. And it’s set in the gorgeous backdrop of the little mountain community of Icicle Falls. My husband, Thomas, and I would love to run a b&b in the little Ozark mountain town of Eureka Springs, AR one day. I think that’s why I like these stories so much, because I see myself fitting in this little town and getting along with these characters so much.

I’m a member of Sheila’s street team, so I usually get the book before everyone else does. Maybe one day I’ll get one read and posted by the time it’s released? Thanks for letting me be involved, Sheila!

Perfect Ride by Eva Lefoy and Shiloh Saddler

If you read and liked A Place to Call Their Own, you might like this modern day cowboy romance.

Blurb:
Professional bull rider Garrett Anderson lives for the next town, the next trophy and his next ride. When he rolls into Sheridan, Wyoming, the last thing he expected was to meet a cowboy like Cole—a man who corrals his heart and leaves him aching for a love he never realized he’d been missing.
Surrounded by hate, Cole Richards wasn’t prepared for Garrett’s passion or the longing their night together leaves him with. But when he’s shot, and stuck in his hospital bed, Cole watches every second of Garrett’s disastrous ride, and is heartbroken when the battered and bruised bull rider leaves town.
Attacked again and knee-deep in trouble, Cole wants only Garett at his side. But can his bull rider trade fame and fortune for a lifetime with his one perfect ride?

Excerpt:
“There he is.” Cole put a foot up on the lower slat of the fence and rested his arms on the upper. “Take a good look at him while he’s standing still. You won’t see him like this in the ring.”
He eyed the bull with respect. He stood out from the rest of the top ten. Spitfire was big, over sixteen hundred pounds of pure, cream-colored power, topped with foot-and-a-half long horns. The way Spitfire eyed him and began to dig at the ground like he wanted to test the limits of the temporary fence sent a shiver up his spine. He’d have to be careful with this one. He gave Cole a sidelong look and studied the man as he watched his bull.
He liked the sandy-blond stubble dusting the man’s chin and cheek. Liked the way his lips were wide and meaty and showed a bit of wear at the edges, betraying either late-night trysts or the tendency to chew on them as he worried. Garrett voted for the latter. Oh, he could picture Cole bent over taking it from another man easily enough, but the thought made him instantly jealous, so he squelched the notion. With nowhere to set his still full plate, he perched it on the top of a post. “You keep a pretty close watch on him?”
Cole nodded. “He’s a rebellious one. An escape artist, too. A little too smart for his britches. Someday he’ll end up in the slaughterhouse if he’s not careful.”
Garrett laughed and slapped the dust off his thigh, the motion garnering Cole’s attention. The heat of Cole’s gaze flushed him warm all over. He couldn’t help but engage in a little appreciation of his own. His tongue wetted his lips as he took in the round curve of Cole’s ass, his narrow hips, up his wide, work-chiseled chest, and finally his face. The man’s gaze blazed hotter as Garrett brushed his hand closer to his groin. “That’d be a waste if you ask me.”
Cole swallowed and snapped his attention back up, his eyes shining. “Yes, it would be. A real shame.”

Stealing the Wind by Shira Anthony

Stealing the Wind (Mermen of Ea) is a novel set in the mythical land of Ea. Young Taren is first sold to pay for his master's debts then indentured aboard a ship for a period of three years. While trying to rescue a cabin boy, he is imprisoned as spy. Even though it's scary for him, Taren finds out about his true nature and his birth.

Shira Anthony mixes historical and fantasy in this tale. The world of Ea and its mainland was a great world to get caught up in as Taren is tossed between masters and then finally realizes his destiny in the arms of the man he dreams about. The traditions, religions, and history of the people of Ea are all introduced in this first book of Mermen of Ea series. If you're a writer of this type of genre, it would be great read just to understand how the world is developed.

Taren's journey is a great story as well. Through his indentured servitude, he learns about love. Through his imprisonment, he learns about his true self. He starts to dream of a man, of a soul with whom he is familiar. Will he fall love? You'll have to read for yourself and find out. Hurry, because book two is due out in May.

Love and Salvage: Eli's Three Wishes by Mathew Ortiz

Eli's Three Wishes is the second book in the Love and Salvage series. It is the story of Elijah Gaither and his quest for love just when he thinks he has the rest of his life together. Just as he meets a cute, younger designer, his youngest son comes to live with him. After being caught with another boy at school, his son leaves his ex-wife's house and lands at Eli's house..

Although the story is classified as "Erotica" (and #20 on Amazon as of the time of this writing), I didn't realize it. There's more sex than I normally like to read, but plenty of other plot points going on to make it enjoyable. It's an easy read with easy to relate to characters. I loved the tension between the older man and younger man, and Eli's own tension he thought he would have with his extended redneck family.

The one thing that was a bit weird for me as a reader was the fact that the epilogue launched into new characters and new situations not relevant to Eli or Oscar. In my opinion, it seemed that should be the first chapter in the next novel.

The first novel in the series, Loving Emmett, was about Eli's nephew and the third novel, Halestorm, is about another of Eli's nephews. I read this first, but am excited to read the other two in the series as well.

The author provided me a copy for an honest review.

Interview With Jayson James

Will Green: Tell us about your books that you have available.
PictureClick for Amazon page.
Jayson James: I’ll start with “T.E.D.” my newest release. This book is about three guys Tim, Eric and Delsin, whose lives are intertwined as they each face their own struggles. The story takes place around entries Tim made in his journal while Eric and Delsin provide the back-story of the events taking place.

My other three books chronicle the lives of Derrick Wilson and Justin Parker, two best friends who find out essentially being more than friends was what their lives were missing.

Finding Our Way” is about after one night of drinking and going too far these two friends, Derrick and Justin become aware of their own sexuality.

Tormented Discovery” explores Derrick and Justin being who they are and how others around them handle it.  The readers get to read more about Hayden and get a closer look at his and Ryan’s relationship.

Drifting” focuses on what happens in a relationship when one loves someone but is questioning whether they both are in love anymore.  This time readers get to read from Ryan’s perspective and what is going on in this shy guy’s head.

Although the books take place chronologically one after another, I wrote each of them as a stand-alone book. My readers started calling the books the “Finding Our Way Series” and the name stuck. After many requests, I released the books together in a series collection.

I also have a few published novellas. “Summer Escape” is about two friends who on a weekend away decide to live by their own rules. I thought it would be a good way for new readers to sample my writing. “Far & Away” is about two guys who meet online, fall in love and realize life is too short to stay apart.

Will Green: What can you tell us about your next project?

Jayson James: After a few failed attempts, I have finally gotten back to writing a book I have titled “Pieces of Us.” When completed, this will be only my second novel to have a title from the beginning of writing it. It is about a guy and girl who are best friends in high school, growing and learning about themselves and others. I’m quite excited about this novel, being it will be different in several ways from my previous published works.

Will Green: Where do you get the information for your book(s)?

Jayson James: Someone once said, “Write what you know.” Although I have never remembered who it was, this is something that has always stuck in my head when it comes to writing something I wanted to share with others. Of course, I have always wanted to write a book where the main character is a killer and have not, which I believe this idea has limited me.

Will Green: What was the most surprising thing you've learned since you started writing?

Jayson James: That there are people out there that enjoy my writing. I was the most surprised at how five of my closest friends love reading what I have written. Also with writing, there is always room to grow. I am always amazed at how much I improve the more I write.

Will Green: How long does it take you to write a book?

Jayson James: Three to six months on average.

Will Green: Who or What inspires you to write?

Jayson James: Friends, family and living life.

Will Green: What would you say is your most interesting writing quirk?

Jayson James: I have to have either the right movie or music playing in the background. There have been times when I am trying to write something and the mood of the noise around me has not been right. I’ve forced it and then been quite disappointed with the outcome.

Will Green: What book are you reading right now?

Jayson James: “Wide Asleep” by Nick Nolan. He sent me an advanced copy of his book, which is something no one has ever done before. I am still excited about it. Due to some eye problems, I have not been able to read it as much as I like. From what I have read so far, once again Nick has another hit with me. My Kindle always has a few books that I am planning on reading, such as “Game of Thrones,” which I made it through the first three books and have had the last two waiting for me to take the time to read them.

Will Green: Who is your favorite author and why?

Jayson James: This has always been a tough question for me. I suppose it depends on my mood. So let me name a few that come to mind. Nick Nolan writes realistic characters and has such a depth in his stories. He is one of the smartest people I have ever met, yet down-to-earth and real. He writes about people that I feel either as if I know or I want to know or even be. Jay Bell also writes some great characters that I always find myself adoring. His books always grab ahold of me and make me cry several times throughout reading them. James Patterson, especially his Alex Cross Series I have always enjoyed. His chapters are so short, I always get a feeling of accomplishment as I read and every time I think I’m growing tired of his work, he puts out something that grabs me right back in. Stephen King I have to mention as well. Over the last few years, I have read through some of his “bigger” books in a small amount of time and have truly enjoyed them. He goes into too much detail at times for me, but he typically has a way of keeping me reading and turning the pages.

Will Green: What kind of music do you listen to and why?

Jayson James: I like a variety of music ranging from modern, musicals and 80’s. Pretty much anything upbeat is what I am drawn towards, especially if it is something I can sing along with. Sometimes I will listen to the same song over and over again. When I’m writing I often have a playlist of 10-12 songs I will listen to through the duration of the writing project. Other times I will hear a song that invokes emotion in me and helps keep me in a particular state of mind.

Will Green: What do you watch on TV and why?

Jayson James: I generally watch TV twice a week, being I do not like to have it take up what I already feel is a limited amount of time. Some shows I that I enjoy watching are “The Walking Dead” and “Shameless”, both being they are entertaining and I can find myself relating or thinking about what I would do if I were in the situations they find themselves in.

Will Green: What kind of advice could you give an aspiring writer?

Jayson James: Do it! Find people who will support you and be honest with you. Be willing to take constructive criticism and grow from it. Do not get discouraged. Those who support and like your writing, value these relationships.

And be sure to connect with Jayson James.
