Unwrapped Hearts by K-lee Klein

Welcome to the release day for the third in my Unbreak My Heart series, Unwrapped Hearts. I was excited to write this short story for Brett & JT, not to mention the fact Brett never seems to leave me alone so this gives me a little breathing room from his poking.

As an author, sometimes I end up with a character that never stops being real in my head. Brett Taylor is exactly that, and despite being bossy and very persistent, he's also one a character dearest to my heart. I put Brett through a lot in the original story so I guess he deserves a little sweetness for Christmas, don't you think?

Unwrapped Hearts is a Christmas story that allows Brett and JT to just celebrate the holiday by basking in each other's love…mostly. Of course, there is another presence in their lives and he seems to feel the need to assert himself over the holidays. I guess you'll have to read the book to find out what happens.

Bio

K-lee Klein has lived in one part of Western Canada or another for her entire life. She’s a doting mother of three now-grown kids, and has had characters and plots running around her head for as long as she can remember. Her days consist of planning her next tattoo design for her growing collection, and fighting off an abundance of fabulous gay men, large and small, bouncing off the walls of her skull, competing for their turns to tell their stories.

Among her favorite sub-genres to read and write are rock stars, cowboys, shifters, and opposites-attract relationships. But to be honest, she’s open to almost anything if it involves messing around in the heads of her characters. She’s also big on series—because she has a hard time letting her characters go—and is usually working on a handful of stories in various stages of completion all at the same time.

Never the Perfect Moment by K-lee Klein

I'm so excited to have my friend,K-lee Klein, talking about her latest release, Never the Perfect Moment...


Never the Perfect Moment is a love story about best friends who just happen to work together. Friends to lovers is a trope I really like. I think it's the fact the characters have previous history other than romantic so know each other's little quirks, annoyances, and possible eccentricities already.
It's a different kind of intimacy when a love relationship starts with so much knowledge and can be a very familiar, comfortable transition. But at the same time there is the fear that should the romantic aspect of the relationship fail, something even more important may be lost—the friendship. That apprehension can also be compounded and more confusing when one friend has never been with a man before.

Those fears and concerns are exactly what Bryan has to deal with in Never the Perfect Moment. He loves Chrys as his SWAT partner and the best friend he's ever had. But he feels an even more powerful love, as well, the kind he's pushed to the back of his mind and heart, at least until a near tragedy occurs. 

Sometimes almost losing what you hold closest to your heart makes you realize fear is no excuse for not taking a risk in order to get what you really want.

Without planning it, it's Rock Star Week on the Book Reviews, Rants, and Raves Blog! First up, K-lee Klein!

This is my second stop on my blog tour. Thanks so much for having me, Dean. Tabby's Pride is out on May 18^th from Amber Quill and I'm excited to have my rock star shifter romance released into the world. Before I share the blurb and cover, let me tell you a bit about my writing and myself.

I'm an emotional person. Whether it's watching a movie, reading a good book or even listening to music, I tend to tear up easily. It's no different when I write. I need to be attached to character's brains and their hearts. I need to feel what they're feeling and suffer the same emotional rollercoaster just as much as I need to know what they're doing physically or how they view the world around them.

I guess that's why I write romance. I like the emotional possibilities of my characters. It doesn't matter if I'm writing a tough-as-nails man or one that wears his heart on his sleeve because the love is still the same. Maybe one guy doesn't express his emotions in words or large gestures. He's not demonstrative or easy to read, and he would rather die than show any sort of PDA. He can be all those things but still feel his heart racing, have his mouth go desert dry, or feel a slight tremor under his skin the first time he realizes the man he's kissing is important to him.

My characters go through a gamut of emotions—from grief to acceptance, fear to joy, pain to love. I try hard to express those things in what they say, what they do, and the secrets they hold inside that no one else can see. In Tabby's Pride, Levi Tabberton fights a battle that is only visible inside his head and his heart. He grapples more with himself than anyone else, and his internal struggle was one of my favorite parts of writing his character.

On the outside, Levi is a devil-may-care rock star in training who wants to fulfill his dreams of musical stardom, but inside, he's a mess of confusion, guilt and overwhelming love. Review: Loved, loved, loved this book. First of all, every one of the four characters in this novel read like real people. Even Brett is dealing with some very specific grief and guilt, I think anyone reading the book could identify with the level of hurt, loss, and anxiety that he does. Even if one doesn’t identify with Brett, the other characters are just as real.

JT is just as honest. A young guy (anyone five years or more than me is “younger” these days) is at crossroads in his life. I remember being at some of those points in life and feeling and acting the same way he does.

Not only are the individual characters genuine, but so are their relationships with each other. Mother and son, close working relationships, and potential love play out well throughout the story. Each one trying help Brett and JT reach their ultimate goals.

The novel is beautifully written, there was no question in my mind about the wonderful environment in which these characters live and breathe. I was totally caught up in the bit worn down, not too shabby ranch. If you like cowboy stories, but get lost in some of the jargon used to explain what they are doing, you will enjoy this novel. K-lee handles it all beautiful and seamlessly.

I definitely recommend.

For Writers:  If you want to develop writing internal conflict and how that affects a character's relationships, this is a great book for that. If you want hone your skill at developing a relationship, this novel can help with that. Finally, if you want to write sensual love scenes, this one has a great one that is not pornographic at all.
