Flesh Market by Kate Lowell - Cover Reveal

Special Agent Leo Gale is up a creek. A year and a half of deep cover is about to go up in flames. He needs help – something, someone to salvage the operation and save the lives of untold numbers of trafficked teenagers.

But he wasn’t expecting the partner they sent, or his own gut-punch of a response to the man.

Julian worked hard for that FBI Honors Internship. It was supposed to be a foot in the door. He’d never expected it to catapult him into the middle of a major undercover operation. Yet here he is, sleeping on a filthy mattress and using every trick in the book to avoid torture--and worse. He’s never felt so scared, or so alive, in his entire life, and he’s not sure if it’s the danger, or Leo, that’s making his heart race.

There’s no time to think about it, though. The operation is heating up, and Leo and Julian are running out of time and options. As choices become more difficult, they must find a way to take the traffickers down, or risk becoming just another set of organs for sale.

Bio:

Kate lives on the east coast of Canada, in an old farmhouse in the middle of nowhere. She has two horses, both of which have medical issues, and three cats, all of which have mental issues. She refuses to get a dog, because who knows what would be wrong with it?

Kate loves to read and write (and it's a darn good thing, because she wouldn't be much of an author if she didn't, would she?) She also likes playing with computers and is considering going back to school to do a programming degree, just for giggles. Or the opportunity to take over the world. (Oh, who are we kidding? Think of all the work that would mean.) She also likes pictures of pretty men and keeps many of them on her computer. (The pictures, not the men.) She would dearly love a cabana boy to mow her lawn and maybe rub her shoulders after a long day of making men fall in love with each other, then cackling evilly and raining frustration and danger on them.

Blurb: The undead were only the beginning.
Topher, Jesse, and Sawyer thought their greatest threat were the Infected and Mutated that roam the world. As they struggle to reach the camp in Kill Devil Hills in North Carolina, they soon discover that the monstrous mutations of the undead are the least of their problems. Something else, something far more intelligent and lethal, is hunting them.
Topher knows that the only way humanity will survive is to find a cure for the strange infection that’s ravaged the world. He’s on the brink of discovering it; but the further his research goes, the more he realizes that curing the world of the infection may mean losing Sawyer.
The three will fight to stay together, and Topher will have to make the ultimate choice: cure the world or save his lover?

EXCERPT
I knuckled the sleep from my eyes and hurriedly dressed. Jesse was out the door by the time I pulled my shirt on. I followed him into the main compartment, Sawyer behind me. Rio sat on the couch next to Jaden, who was curled up with his blanket. On the table was a camping lamp, which filled the RV with yellow light.
“What’s going on?” I asked, straightening my shirt.
“Something is going down with Jane,” Rio said. “I heard it out in the truck.”
Nash pulled Chloe into his arms and drew her away from the window. Jesse walked over to the dinette table and looked outside, then let out a string of curses. I nudged him over and looked out myself.
“Sweet Jesus,” I whispered. The blood chilled in my veins, turning into ice fractals that splintered through my mind. I gripped the table as I watched the genocide going on outside.
People were being dragged from their tents and herded together like sheep for slaughter. It was hard to see how many people had been gathered. Clouds shrouded the moon, and the fires had smoldered out, leaving the camp a battlefield of shadows.
And you will burn in a lake of fire, unless you repent and purge the sinners from your life. We must show God that we are believers and his servants. It’s the only way to find the path to salvation.

Excerpt:
M'lan knelt beside the assassin's bronzed body. He placed his palm on Jamil's chest and silently beseeched Salar to remove the deadly impulses instilled in Jamil ever since he began his training as an assassin. Jamil closed his eyes and seemed to relax, but as the warm energy of the god seeped through M'lan's fingers, Jamil jerked suddenly to full alertness. Like a cobra striking he seized M'lan's wrist and gave it a painful twist, eyes flashing. M'lan sat back, startled.
Jamil did not let him go. He let out a slow breath and lifted M'lan's fingers to his mouth. He kissed the knuckles of a clenched fist. "The last thing I need is more spells to confuse this simple warrior's mind."
"A prayer is not a spell!" M'lan tried to pull free but couldn't. He gritted his teeth, fighting back a rising anger. Jamil's strength both entranced and infuriated him.
"Stop trying to weaken me." Jamil said in a wretchedly calm voice. "You must stay here and do your duty, I must go away and do mine. Nothing has changed."
M'lan inhaled slowly, breath catching. "Let me go."

Excerpt:
It was nine o'clock. They'd long lost the reservation. Hunter turned away from the warm lights of the restaurant, heart heavy. Shawn was too good to be true. For all he knew, he had a problem like Jerry's, who'd often left him waiting, wondering, and ultimately fearing as dinner sat cold on the table. He gave in and took a step toward home.
"Hunter!"
He whipped around.
Shawn rushed toward him. He slipped on the snowy sidewalk, nearly going down, but Hunter ran at him, and they crashed together so hard his teeth clicked. Shawn's arms went around him and his around Shawn, and they managed to hold each other up.
"I'm sorry," were the first words out of Shawn's mouth.
"All you deserve is pizza crusts," Hunter mock-growled and kissed him, unconsciously trying to taste booze on his breath. Like Jerry and too many broken promises. Relieved it was only peppermint mouthwash, he didn't stop kissing him.
When Hunter let him speak, Shawn said, "I'm starving, I'll take it." He pushed Hunter a little away from him. "Jesus. You're freezing."
"And starving. There's a Greek pizza place down this way, come on—"
"I'll make it up to you," he said, taking Hunter's hand.
