When I read this line in the book, I laughed out loud! Loved it! I have been following Merry Farmer since before I was published author. When I found out she wrote an mm romance, I jumped at the chance to get a review copy in exchange for a an honest review.
In the Montana town of Cold Springs, longtime resident and banker, Phineas Bell, meets the new sheriff, Elliott Tucker. When Phin’s best friend, Michael, is threatened by people from the town where Michael is trying to open a new store, Elliott and Phin are thrown together in trying to stop the threats and help Michael open his store.
To be honest, the first part of the book does read like a traditional m/f romance, with the two love interests pining (whining) for each other without doing anything about it. But once there is a run on the bank, the first crisis Phin and Elliott have to deal with, I was hooked and couldn’t put the book down. From there, the book reads like any other mm romance, both heroes working for, helping, and wanting each other. The sex is hot, the angst is real, and Ms. Farmer does a great job with the historical setting.
I loved the fact that Phin lives an “out” lifestyle in 1900s Montana, and the fact that he won’t stand for Elliott to put on a charade of being straight to please the townspeople. I think that’s why I do like mm historicals so much, because it makes me appreciate the life I’ve been able to lead. Some would criticze the work for this, but I loved it.
I also enjoyed the ending. It’s one of the best HEA’s I’ve read in a long time.
If you like historicals, you’ll love it. If you are a Merry Farmer fan you’ll love it. If you like a good mm mystery, give it a try! I think you’ll love it.
About Somebody To Love
Somebody To Love is the fourth full-length novel in Merry Farmer's highly acclaimed, historical Montana Romance series. In this novel, which has already found a home atop Amazon's LGBT romance lists, she writes about the love between two men, Phinneas Bell and Elliott Tucker, and the issues that surround them as they try to make their way in 1800s Montana."This is a moving tale of friendship, lust, sacrifice, family, perceptions, existing vs. being happy, being seen as a "normal" man, wanting something seemingly impossible to obtain, being true to one's self and not being afraid to love." --Deirdre, Amazon reviewer
